Re-package News for the 21st Century.

News Corp needed innovation.

News Corp Australia operates some of the largest and well-known media brands in Australia. Their content distribution was defined by traditional media’s one-way engagement paradigm with their audiences.

Social media and new digital technologies provided new opportunities for how they could engage with their audiences and bring them into the news cycle.

The Challenge

Re-package News Corp content for a 21st century, socially connected audience.

The Solution

Native Empire were given a blank slate to devise new and interesting ways News Corp could repackage their content to engage a socially connected mobile audience in the 21st Century.

Our initial engagement focused on creating an innovative, mobile responsive “Storyline” app that enabled Users to enter their birth date and have a timeline created uniquely for them that highlighted important news events for each day of their life. People could then share their memories of these events with their friends on social media.

Following on from our award winning “Storyline” app, we created a “Culture Calendar” that integrated with the rich News Corp library of arts content, to provide people with a customisable calendar of events matching their interests and location. They could then share upcoming events with their friends on social media.

We further developed a number of mobile responsive, socially connected micro-sites and web applications that supported promotions and giveaways with masthead news channels across Australia that increased the reach and awareness for the brand and helped increase news consumption.
